Why can’t I save a TikTok video?

Can’t save a TikTok video? Check creator permissions, private posts, expired links, quotas and completed files before retrying a download.

Download a TikTok video as MP4

A TikTok video can be visible on your phone without being available to save. The missing Save video button, an inaccessible public link and a file that never reaches your gallery are different problems. Start by identifying which stage failed. That prevents repeated downloads and helps you decide whether to copy a new link, check your device or respect a restriction that another tool cannot legitimately remove.

Check TikTok’s own save option first

Open the individual post and look in its Share menu. TikTok’s help explains that its Save video option depends on the creator allowing downloads. If that option is missing, do not assume your phone has a storage problem. The creator’s setting and the visibility of the post are separate controls. Ask the creator for an authorised copy when necessary. A downloader is not a permission override.

If you own the material, keep the original export as your main backup. A copy downloaded from a social platform may have been compressed or changed during publication. Saving a version before posting is a better starting point for future edits. Store that original outside the app as well, and record which file you actually uploaded so you can identify it later.

A private or removed post needs a different response

Your signed-in TikTok app may show a post that an anonymous server cannot access. Private accounts, limited audiences, age checks and login requirements can all create this difference. Being able to watch from your own account does not establish that the video is public. Do not paste passwords, session cookies or private messages into a link field to try to change that.

Try opening the original link in a browser where you are not signed in. If it is unavailable there, stop treating the problem as a conversion error. If the post was deleted, a new format choice cannot bring it back. Contact the owner if appropriate, or use a backup you already lawfully hold. Avoid repeated requests for content whose access has deliberately been restricted.

Share addresses and video files are not the same resource. A short address may redirect to a publication, while a temporary media address may expire. Return to the video in TikTok and copy its Share link again. Check that the new address points to the same post rather than the creator’s profile, a search result or a page about a sound.

VidFetch accepts public video addresses including tiktok.com/@name/video/…, vm.tiktok.com, vt.tiktok.com and tiktok.com/t/…. You can paste the entire share message if it contains the video link. For an authorised public post, the TikTok MP4 tool shows the formats returned by the source. Copying a fresh link can repair an obsolete address; it cannot change a creator’s privacy decision.

Recognise photos, LIVE and other unsupported inputs

A post that looks like a moving slideshow may still be a photo publication rather than an ordinary video. VidFetch’s video workflow does not support photo-mode posts, profiles, hashtag pages or live streams. A link being on the TikTok domain is not enough. Confirm the type of content before spending time trying different output formats or repeatedly opening the same address.

For your own photo post or live recording, use the options TikTok makes available to you for that content type. This guide does not promise that a viewer can save another person’s LIVE. The MP4 tool handles individual public videos; the MP3 tool takes an existing audio track from such a video. Neither option turns every page on TikTok into downloadable media.

Separate a preparation failure from a transfer failure

If analysis succeeds but preparation fails, read the displayed message before retrying. VidFetch limits each media item to 256 MB and 30 minutes, and applies quotas and limits on simultaneous work. Source restrictions and a busy service may also prevent preparation. A smaller output is useful only when it is actually available and the original request is within the supported limits.

If transfer begins and then stops, check your connection and available storage. Leave the page open while preparation and transfer finish. Do not launch several identical requests to compensate: they can consume quotas without solving the interruption. A temporary download link may need to be prepared again. Start from the public post address, rather than bookmarking a temporary file address as though it were permanent.

The file may already be on your phone

A completed browser download does not always appear in a gallery. On an iPhone, check Files and Safari’s downloads list. On Android, check Downloads in the file manager. Open the completed file from there and verify its duration before requesting another copy. If it plays properly, the remaining issue may be importing it into your preferred photo or video application.

If it will not play, distinguish an incomplete transfer from an unsupported format. A filename ending in .mp4 is not proof that every device supports the tracks inside it. Renaming the extension does not repair missing data or convert codecs. Keep the downloaded source and check a compatible player before making further conversions. Our gallery guide covers where a completed file can be found.

Know when to stop retrying

A sensible retry changes something: a fresh authorised link, a restored connection, enough free storage or the end of a stated waiting period. Repeating the same blocked request is not a repair strategy. Note the visible error and the stage where it appeared; never include passwords or access tokens when describing the issue to support.

VidFetch saves the rendition the platform supplies and does not remove a watermark embedded in the picture. It also does not provide YouTube downloads, or guaranteed Instagram or X support. For a public TikTok video you may keep, choose the relevant tool and test the result. For restricted material, seek permission or an original copy instead of trying to defeat the restriction.
